Astro Gold 6.2.1 for macOS

astrogold mac: workspace view

Who uses Astro Gold?

Astrology students who want a clean desk, and working astrologers who need to pull up a chart without booting Windows. It lives on your Mac right next to your calendar and note-taking app, so you can cross-reference transits while you plan your week.

Can you run it on an older Mac?

Probably. It needs macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later, and it runs fine on Intel or Apple Silicon machines. If your Mac still gets security updates, you’re in good shape.

What kind of charts does it draw?

Round and square natal charts, with or without aspect lines. You can tweak the orbs, filter planets and aspects, and switch between tropical and sidereal zodiacs depending on the system you learned.

Does it go beyond birth charts?

Yes. Solar and lunar returns, Saturn returns, and other planetary returns are all built in. You also get an astrocartography view with planetary lines, a fixed star catalog, and ephemerides for checking positions over time.

A session with Astro Gold, step by step

Let’s say a friend asks about a career move. I open the app and click New Chart. The data entry window is one screen — name, birth date, time, place. I type “Clara” and plug in her details. The atlas fills the coordinates as I tab through; no second-guessing time zones.

I hit OK and her natal chart appears in the default round style, aspect lines drawn tight. I’m a tropical guy, so I leave the zodiac alone. First thing I do is widen the orbs under Settings — I like a looser net for transits. Three clicks and the aspect table recalculates.

Next I want progressions. I right-click the chart, choose Secondary Progressions, and a second wheel pops up side by side. I drag it next to the natal on my big monitor. Now I can see her progressed Moon just crossing the Midheaven. That’s the story I’ll tell her.

I save both charts into a folder called “Clara 2025” so I can pull them up next week. The whole session — from launch to saved reading — takes under four minutes. Nothing got in the way.

Retina-sharp wheels and a cleaner square chart layout

Version 6.0 rewrote the rendering engine, so chart wheels are sharper on Retina screens and redraw faster when you resize a window. The square chart style got a layout refresh — the houses are easier to scan at a glance, which helps during a consultation when you’re talking and reading simultaneously.

By 6.2.1, the developer had tightened a few things that matter in daily work. The ephemeris now loads quicker when you jump between decades. The atlas search tolerates misspelled city names better — type “Philadelpia” and it still finds the right place. And the aspect table remembers your last sort order between sessions, so you don’t keep re-clicking the orb column.

Drag a chart straight into your client notes

Astro Gold doesn’t try to be your calendar or your notebook. It exports a chart image with a quick drag to the desktop, and from there I drop it into a Note or a Pages document for a client write-up. The image has a transparent background option, so it sits cleanly on a colored page without a white box around the wheel.

I keep the app in the same desktop space as my browser and my weather widget. When I’m looking at an astro gold mac setup for a talk, I’ll open three charts, tile them with macOS window snapping, and screenshot the whole spread for a slide. No fuss.

It plays nicely with Spotlight too. I renamed my chart files with client names and dates, and now I type “Clara natal” into Spotlight and the .agold file pops right up. Small thing, but it saves rummaging through folders.

If you use Time Machine, your chart database sits in your user Library and gets backed up automatically. I’ve restored a year’s worth of client work that way after a drive swap — everything came back intact, folders and all.

Questions I actually get

Is Astro Gold compatible with Apple Silicon?

Yes, version 6.2.1 works natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, so it’ll feel snappy on an M1 or M2 machine.

What zodiac systems does it support?

You can work with tropical or sidereal zodiacs, and the app includes a catalog of fixed stars for finer chart details.

No notes on this one yet. They go up after I read them.
