Privacy and cookies
I keep things simple here—always have. Below is the short version of how your information works on this site. If you’ve ever run a small restaurant, you know clear instructions beat a long speech.
- Without an account you can browse everything. No cookies land on your machine. That’s it.
- With a free account we store a display name, your email address, a hashed (scrambled) password, your favorites, any comments you write, and on-site notifications. We never send marketing email.
- Comments sit hidden until I read them and hit approve. While waiting, you’ll see them marked “awaiting moderation” on your end. The moderator sees your display name, email address, and which page you commented on.
- Notifications live only inside your account on the site—clean and quiet, like a closed kitchen.
- Server logs record the usual things: IP address, browser type, pages requested. We use those logs for security and to fix problems, then they roll off.
- We never sell data, and we run zero third-party advertising trackers. Not one.
Signing up and what we store
When you create an account, you pick a display name and give us an email address. Your password gets hashed right away—nobody here can see the original. After that, the site remembers your favorites list, any comments you leave, and a handful of notification flags (for example, when a saved program gets an update). That’s the whole inventory.
Comments and moderation
Every comment goes through moderation before it appears publicly. During that window, the author sees their own comment with a small “awaiting moderation” label. The moderation screen shows me the comment text, the display name, the email tied to the account, and the program page it was left on. Once approved, only the display name and comment are public. I read every one myself—no bots, no shortcuts.
Notifications, not newsletters
If you favorite a program and it gets an update, the site drops a notification inside your account. That’s the only kind of message we send. No marketing emails ever go out from this address, even if you leave your account active for years. If you want to stop hearing from us, the notifications stop the moment your account is closed.
Deleting your account or a comment
Write to [email protected] and I’ll handle it personally. Tell me whether you want a single comment removed or the whole account deleted. Either way, I confirm back once it’s done.
Children
This site isn’t built for young children, and I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under thirteen. If you’re a parent and believe something slipped through, please email me and I’ll pull it right away.
Server logs
The web server keeps ordinary access logs: IP address, browser type, the pages requested, and timestamps. I glance at those logs when something breaks or when I need to block bad traffic. They aren’t linked to your account unless I’m troubleshooting a specific issue you reported.
What we never do
No selling data. No third-party advertising trackers. No sneaky scripts that follow you around the web. I built this site from scratch because I wanted a straightforward place to talk about Mac software—not another billboard.
Cookies
If you’re just browsing without signing in, the site doesn’t set any cookies at all. None. Signing in sets two small cookies: a session cookie so you stay logged in while you click around, and a lightweight sign-in marker that remembers you next time you visit. Both are strictly functional—no advertising or tracking cookies hide anywhere in the code. When you sign out, the session cookie disappears.
