If you've ever used a bullet journal to keep your life together, Cult of the Lamb feels like that — except your to-do list includes sermons, ritual sacrifices, and cooking bowls of poop for your followers. It's a game that splits itself right down the middle: one part fast, dodge-heavy dungeon crawling, the other part a surprisingly deep base builder where you're the spiritual leader of a woodland flock.

Roll, slash, and curse through shifting rooms

You fight your way through randomly generated rooms filled with hostile creatures and rival cult leaders. Combat is quick and lightweight — you'll roll, slash, and cast curses using a small but satisfying set of moves that changes each run based on the weapons and tarot cards you find.

What happens back at the cult?

Between runs you return to your commune to manage your followers. You'll clean up their literal waste, build shelters and farms, unlock new rituals, and deliver sermons to keep their faith — and your power — from crumbling.

How do the two halves connect?

Everything you gather on a run, from wood and stone to devotion points, fuels your settlement. In turn, a stronger cult unlocks permanent upgrades and new weapons that make your dungeon runs more deadly. Letting your flock starve or lose faith has real consequences.

Turn off screen shake before combat gets busy

Before your first sermon, open the options and turn off screen shake if you're sensitive to motion — the combat gets busy and the camera loves to shudder. I also bumped the damage numbers up to large so I could see what was actually hurting me during chaotic fights. Auto-aim for melee and curses is on by default and worth keeping while you learn enemy patterns.

The game runs comfortably on Apple Silicon, and my fans stayed quiet through multi-hour sessions on an M4 Mac mini. Loading between the cult grounds and dungeon regions is snappy, and I never hit a crash once the app was copied over properly. If it hangs on first launch, the Rosetta workaround settles it.

Questions I actually get

Does it run on Apple Silicon Macs?

Yes, it supports both ARM and x86 64-bit Macs and was tested on a Mac mini 2024 with an M4 chip running macOS Tahoe.

What if the game freezes when I open it?

Launch it with Rosetta — that has solved startup hangs for several builds.
