You got home late, the kids finally asleep. You grab your Mac, ready to watch that 4K rip you've been saving, but QuickTime just stares back at you blankly. That's the moment you go looking for a player that simply works.
No converting—handles MKV and DTS out of the box
Infuse handles nearly every video format out of the box—MKV, MP4, AVI, you name it. No converting, no hunting for codec packs. It also passes through high-end audio like DTS and Dolby Digital Plus to your receiver.
Can it pull videos from my other devices?
Yes. It connects directly to Macs, PCs, NAS drives, and media servers like Plex and Jellyfin. You can also stream from cloud drives including Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive without downloading the file first.
Will it keep my spot if I switch devices?
With Infuse Pro, iCloud sync keeps your library, watched history, and in-progress queue updated across your Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Trakt integration also syncs your ratings and comments.
Where do subtitles come from?
You can drag in a subtitle file while watching, or let the app fetch them directly from OpenSubtitles. It's a quick fix when a foreign-language scene catches you off guard.
Editing a birthday video while the cake is in the oven
A parent I know shoots everything on a mirrorless camera — huge MOV files the Mac Finder won't even preview. Last Saturday she needed to trim last year's birthday clips before guests arrived. She pointed Infuse at the SD card, scrubbed through 40 GB of footage without a stutter, and pulled the clean clip straight into her editor. No transcoding, no waiting.
Add your NAS folder manually with a direct SMB path
Most hiccups come down to network paths or subtitle timing.
- NAS folders not showing up. If you connect over SMB and the share is grayed out, add the folder manually instead of browsing. Type the path like
smb://192.168.1.50/Videos— it often wakes up a sleepy router when auto-discovery falls asleep. - Subtitles out of sync. While the video plays, tap the gear icon, choose Subtitles, and use the offset slider. Half a second forward usually snaps a downloaded SRT right into place.
- Cloud stream stuttering. For large MKV files on Google Drive or OneDrive, drop the buffer size in playback settings to 15 seconds. High-bitrate files sometimes choke on the default buffer over spotty Wi-Fi.
- Trakt not updating watched status. Go to Settings → Trakt and toggle the sync off, then back on. It re-establishes the handshake without losing your history.
Version 8.5.5 landed September 16, 2026, mainly tidying things up under the hood. The public notes focused on iOS and iPadOS, but the Mac build got the same round of fixes.
- macOS 12 or later
- Works on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs
Questions I actually get
Is there a Windows or Android version?
No, Infuse is built only for Apple devices—Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Vision—and requires macOS 12 or later.
